De Oranjekom Visitor Centre - Nature

The De Oranjekom visitor centre in Bentveld is the ideal starting point for a visit to the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen. The centre is located right by the main entrance on Zandvoortselaan, between Zandvoort and Haarlem. Here, you can discover how nature, dunes and drinking water extraction have been connected for more than 170 years.

What can you expect at De Oranjekom visitor centre?

• Starting point for the Waterleidingduinen: From De Oranjekom, you can walk straight into the extensive dune area. At the information desk, you can get walking routes, tips on the most beautiful spots and information about the different entrances to the area.
• Exhibition about nature and water: Inside, you learn more about the history of the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen and the special process of drinking water extraction. Through information panels, scale models and interactive features, you discover how water is purified through the dunes.
• Fallow deer, foxes and birds: The Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen are known for their rich nature. Many fallow deer live in the area, as well as foxes, birds and special plants. Staff and volunteers can often give tips on recent nature sightings.
• Fun for children: For children, the visitor centre is a pleasant place to learn more about water, dunes and animals in a playful way. Excursions, nature activities and guided walks are also organised regularly.
• Walking and roaming: Directly outside the visitor centre begins a varied landscape of open dunes, woods, grasslands, canals and infiltration lakes. What makes the Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen special is that in large parts of the area you are also allowed to roam off the paths.
• De Oranjekom: A short walk away lies the well-known Oranjekom, the large infiltration basin after which the visitor centre is named. From here, you have a lovely view over the water and the surrounding dunes.
