De Blinkert - Observation point
The Blinkert is one of the best-known dune tops in Zuid-Kennemerland National Park. This strikingly steep dune lies on the edge of Overveen and is a lovely starting point for a walk through the extensive Kennemerduinen.
What can you expect at De Blinkert?
- Steep dune top: The climb to the top is short but quite demanding. Once at the summit, you are rewarded with a wonderful view over dunes, woodland and, in clear weather, even towards Haarlem and the North Sea.
- Historic name: The name Blinkert probably refers to the pale, shimmering dune sand that was once visible from a great distance.
- Rich nature: Around the dune top you will find dune grasses, heather, mosses and lichens. In the surrounding area you may also spot birds, fallow deer, rabbits and sometimes even a fox.
- Great place for families: Right next to De Blinkert is a pancake house. This makes it a lovely stop for families, walkers and cyclists who want to combine nature with something tasty.
- Beautiful photo spot: Especially at sunrise or sunset, De Blinkert is a photogenic place, with views over the rolling dune landscape of Zuid-Kennemerland.
